As a big fan of what the CW’s Arrowverse has put out since it began back in 2012, especially The Flash, I was delighted to hear that they were bringing another big character to television when Batwoman was announced to be featured in their upcoming crossover late this year. Batwoman, who was introduced in DC Comics in 1956 as a superheroine that became just as titular as Batman defending Gotham City in Detective Comics. Despite being absent from continuity for fifty years, she was reintroduced in 2006. Now, it’s finally announced who will be portraying her in live-action!
Ruby Rose, who is well-known for her role as Stella Carlin in Orange is the New Black, will be portraying Kate Kane/Batwoman and will be the first openly lesbian superhero on television. Rose herself is openly gay and it was reported the network made casting an actress who was a priority. Although she has appeared/will appear in both Pitch Perfect 3 and The Meg respectively, the best film of reference for her fighting skills that could be translated into the role would be John Wick: Chapter 2 in which she portrayed Ares.

What do you think of Ruby Rose’s fighting skills? Her casting has received mostly good feedback, and many are excited for not only the crossover, but the show that she’ll be getting in the titular role. The pilot is reported to happen as early as midseason, according to Mark Pedowitz, and, if successful, will air on the 2019 TV season. Along with the essential Geoff Johns and Greg Berlanti as EPs, there is also Sarah Schechter and The Vampire Diaries‘ writer and producer Caroline Dries.
